In October, I was fortunate to be the wedding photographer for Stacey and Matthew’s Athlone wedding. Their ceremony was held at St. Brigid’s Church and their wedding reception was at the Radisson Blu in Athlone. It was a pleasure to photograph their love.

Unfortunately, the bride’s brother, Dermot, missed the wedding ceremony because he was playing in a GAA Intermediate Hurling County Final with the Clara hurling team. I was able to photograph him with the bride before the ceremony. They went on to win the match by beating Seir Kieran 2-11 to Clara 2-15! I was happy to get a chance to photograph the two of them ahead of the wedding ceremony at St. Brigid’s and Dermot made the reception afterwards.
Stacey and Matthew brought their cute dogs to the church for the ceremony. I loved how they decided to include their dogs in their wedding day. The two pups came with us for the wedding portraits after the ceremony. You’ll see them in a few of their wedding pictures!
After the ceremony, we headed to the Luan Gallery and Seán’s Bar in Athlone for some wedding photos. Taking wedding photos at the Luan Gallery was fun. The bridal party was full of joyful excitement which made for fun pictures with the eclectic artwork on display. Seán’s Bar is the oldest pub in Ireland, right on the bank of the River Shannon. I captured some photos of the happy husband and wife as they celebrated with a pint. They finished off their wedding day with a reception at The Radisson Blu.
Weddings at The Radisson Blu are always stunning. With a waterfront location and scenic views of both the town and the river, it provided a lovely backdrop for Stacey and Matthew’s celebration. The large ballroom was able to house all their family and friends for their wonderful wedding celebration.
I recently caught up with Stacey and Matthew after their Radisson Blu wedding to ask them about their wedding day and what advice they had for other couples.
How did you meet?
Matthew and I met online.
How did he propose?
On a flight to Munich (not over the intercom!)
What was important for you both when planning your wedding?
When we were planning our wedding, it was most important that it be stress-free with the least amount of hassle possible.
Where did you get your dress?
My gown was from Belle Marie in Athboy.
What do you remember most from the ceremony?
Walking up the aisle.
What was special to you in the ceremony?
The music by my uncle, cousins and neighbours.
How did you choose the Radisson Blu?
We were limited to hotels due to our large numbers. We chose the Radisson Blu, Athlone because of their modern ballroom and the view over the river.
What was your favourite part of the wedding day?
The meal, when I got to talk to people!
Have you any advice for future couples planning their wedding?
The day goes by very fast so try to take in as much as possible.
Thank you so much to Stacey and Matthew for inviting me to photograph their beautiful Radisson Blu wedding in Athlone. I wish you two nothing but happiness for years to come!
