Hodson Bay Hotel Wedding<\/h2>\n

I recently covered the wedding of Aisling and Eoin in St Peter and Paul’s Church in Athlone<\/a>.\u00a0 Their reception was held in the Hodson Bay Hotel.<\/a> It was a real fun wedding and the couple never stopped smiling for the day.\u00a0 They were living in Melbourne before the wedding and this made it tricky for them when they were trying to organise everything.\u00a0 \u00a0I caught up with them recently to ask them about their wedding and if they had any advice for future couples getting married.<\/p>\n

How did you meet?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We meet at Schwartz Crossfit in Melbourne in October 2013. Our intentions to get fit both led us to meeting here and\u00a0becoming\u00a0friends which soon led to us to becoming more than that. I was the first one to greet Eoin on his first day at the gym as he looked a little lost! I think the fact that we both were from\u00a0Ireland\u00a0meant we both understood the Irish accent\u00a0and\u00a0humour!! Eoin is\u00a0loving, honest and\u00a0generous,\u00a0which were attractive traits to me and still are.<\/p>\n

How did he\/she propose?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eoin\u00a0proposed\u00a0back in December 2016 with a helicopter trip to the\u00a0Yarra Valley (the winery but more\u00a0importantly a chocolate haven!) just outside\u00a0Melbourne Australia, where we were living at the time. It was a complete surprise at the\u00a0time and I had no idea what was in store as I had been convinced somehow that he had won it as part of a\u00a0competition. It\u00a0was a lovely day and it was a surprise to turn around and see Eoin on one\u00a0knee with the engagement ring which he had helped to design.<\/p>\n

What was important for you both when planning your wedding?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To have lots of fun and enjoy the day with family and\u00a0friends. We also wanted a fantastic photographer to be able to\u00a0capture our special day.<\/p>\n

Did you have a wedding theme?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u00a0didn’t\u00a0have a theme so to speak but I suppose if you could call it anything I’d say ‘Wild and Rustic’.<\/p>\n

Where did you get your dress?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I had my dress made by Luci di Bella Design\u00a0House, Armadale,\u00a0Melbourne<\/a>, Australia. Luci and her staff were delightful and were very helpful throughout my dress fittings.<\/p>\n

Where did you get the Bridesmaids Dresses?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I bought my bridesmaids dresses online through Tulle and Chantilly website<\/a>. Despite being a little anxious buying these online they ended up being fantastic and I was delighted with their quality and delivery.<\/p>\n

Where did the groom and the groomsmen get their suits?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eoin bought his suit in Peter Jacksons in\u00a0Melbourne<\/a>, Australia\u00a0and the groomsmen got their suits in Tom Murphys in Cork<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Who did your hair and make up?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hair by Kelley O\u00a0Sullivan\u00a0at Custom Cuts, Athlone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Make up by Aileen Duffy.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>What do you remember most from the ceremony?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We remember\u00a0the beautiful music which Noreen Rabbette<\/a> provided on the day…we\u00a0have\u00a0to say we\u00a0didn’t\u00a0think we would get as emotional as we did but we\u00a0absolutely\u00a0loved her amazing voice. I\u00a0remember\u00a0moments including my mother looking at me before she walked me down the aisle, Eoins’ lovely words as he\u00a0met me at the top of the church\u00a0and the beautiful ceremony which Fr.John Deignan gave on the day. He made the whole experience both leading up to and during the day very relaxed\u00a0and\u00a0comfortable. He was fantastic\u00a0and\u00a0we really enjoyed his ceremony.<\/p>\n

What was special to you in the ceremony?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To\u00a0remember\u00a0and include\u00a0those\u00a0that\u00a0couldn’t\u00a0be\u00a0there\u00a0on our special day including family friends\u00a0and\u00a0relatives including my dad Tommy and both Eoin and my grandparents, who have all passed away.<\/p>\n

How did you choose your venue?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I used to\u00a0work\u00a0in the\u00a0Hodson\u00a0Bay Hotel<\/a> when I was\u00a0younger\u00a0and had fond memories of the staff\u00a0and\u00a0hotels’ location. Being a local I have\u00a0always found it to be a very special place and\u00a0didn’t\u00a0have any question as to\u00a0where\u00a0the venue would\u00a0be. The staff at the bay were absolutely fantastic\u00a0especially\u00a0Micheal Dolan, Teresa Kelly and Emer Heavin. The day ran so smoothly and the service was second to none…in other words excellent!<\/p>\n

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Saying I do!! We enjoyed meeting all those who were part of our special day and\u00a0catching\u00a0up with family\u00a0and\u00a0friends.\u00a0We loved having Liam Kidney capture all the fun\u00a0and\u00a0memorable\u00a0shots of us together and with our\u00a0family\u00a0and friends. From the start he had us all laughing and set the tone for the rest of\u00a0the day.\u00a0We also really enjoyed our\u00a0journey\u00a0with our\u00a0novel VW\u00a0Combi\u00a0van “Dorothy” both to\u00a0and\u00a0from the church with\u00a0Derek McMahon\u00a0and\u00a0Claire Brown at the Fine Wine and Food Co. Athlone<\/a> for organising our untraditional Cheese tier cake which was delicious!<\/p>\n

Have you any advice for future couples planning their wedding?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Enjoy as much as you can and at the end of the day try not to stress too much. As long as your family and\u00a0friends\u00a0are\u00a0there\u00a0and you both show up\u00a0everything\u00a0will fall into place.<\/p>\n
