left;\">I photographed Jim and Paul&#8217;s gay wedding in\u00a0Holy Trinity Heritage centre, Carlingford, County Louth.\u00a0 \u00a0Jim has been great friends with my wife Laura, for many years and when\u00a0the marriage referendum was passed in May 2016 we met Jim and Paul for dinner to celebrate the historic day.\u00a0 We were honoured when they asked our daughter Aine to be a flower girl for their wedding.\u00a0 \u00a0It was a truly incredible wedding that lives long in my memory.\u00a0 Jim and Paul put so much thought and effort in to the ceremony and the day.\u00a0 It was perfect.\u00a0 I had never seen such a amazing wedding venue as Tranquility House, on Calvary lane,Omeath in County Louth.\u00a0 They had every table uniquely decorated to a particular theme.\u00a0 It truly was a fantastic day.\u00a0 I caught up with the couple recently to discuss their wedding with them one year on.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"oceanwp-oembed-wrap colleague.\u00a0 Paull invited me out for a coffee and it took off from there !<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">How did he propose?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8220;It was mid october 2015, a cold clear starry night and we were out in the back garden star gazing trying to put names on the stars when i turned around Paul was bending down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>What was important for you both when planning your wedding?<\/h2>\n<p>For us both it was important that our love shone through and that our guests would have a day to remember and never forget .\u00a0 I think we achieved that<\/p>\n<h2>Did you have a wedding theme?<\/h2>\n<p>Yes we sure did the clue was in the opening song that was played at the ceremony &#8220;Somewhere over the rainbow&#8221; The rainbow themes we felt was inclusive and colourful which was exactly what we wanted.\u00a0 We wanted colour splashed everywhere that day .<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>Where did you get your suits ?<\/h2>\n<p>We both bought our suits from Tony McDonnell&#8217;s menswear ,earl street dundalk,County Louth.They were fantastic and we really felt so special and comfortable wearing them on our wedding day.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>Where did you get the bridemaid&#8217;s dressess?<\/h2>\n<p>The first dress we got for Angela Ashton from Phase Eight in Debenhams department store ,The Quays Newry County Down.The second dress we bought for Angela winterburn in Elmays clanbrassill street Dundalk County Louth.Both dresses really suited their personalities.<\/p>\n<h2>Where did the groomsmen get their suits?<\/h2>\n<p>In wilfs mens clothing ,castle street Mullingar County westmeath.<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 120px;\"><\/div>\n<h2>What do you remember most from the ceremony?<\/h2>\n<p>Both of us had put a great deal of effort into the ceremony .\u00a0 We decided we didn&#8217;t want speeches said at the reception so instead all we wanted to say was said during the ceremony.\u00a0 But what we remember the most by\u00a0far it has to be the overwhelming feeling of love and support from our families and friends and also the beautiful music that was performed by the wonderful Naoimh Penston.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>What was special to you in the ceremony ?<\/h2>\n<p>Everything we wanted to say was said in the ceremony so the poems we wrote ourselves were very special and meant so much.The flashmob dance got everyone in the heritage centre involved and we we both gobsmacked that they really got into it !! Finally the lanterns that were lit in memory of our loved ones who were no longer with us but were there in spirit\u00a0 added a very meaningful touch.\u00a0 For the reception in Tranquility house for table centerpieces we used family earlooms and gifts we had been given from friends down the years ,we were able to have different themes for each table.\u00a0 Have to say it looked amazing and all the guests we wowed by them including the caterers.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>How did you choose your venue?<\/h2>\n<p>We both knew we didn&#8217;t want to have our wedding in a hotel or registrar office.\u00a0 A year before our wedding two of our best friends got married in Carlingford .\u00a0 They had their wedding ceremony in the heritage centre followed by a reception in a country house.\u00a0 An idea which we both loved .\u00a0 We immediately fell in love with the heritage centre and knew we wanted to have our ceremony there . It had just the right ambiance,space and beauty.\u00a0 The day after our friends wedding we googled for country houses in the area as we didnt want to use the same venue as our friends.\u00a0 Paul came across Tranquility House which had the wow factor and was perfect for what we wanted.\u00a0 The views were also breathtaking !!<\/p>\n<h2>What is your favourite part of the wedding ?<\/h2>\n<p>We cannot pick a favourite part because we loved every single minute of our wedding day from start to finish !!<\/p>\n<h2>Have you any advice for future couples planning their wedding?<\/h2>\n<p>Step back and organise yourselves.\u00a0 Set goals and plan for yourselves and not others.\u00a0 Invite your nearest and dearest.\u00a0 Food and drink was important for our wedding .\u00a0 We were so delighted with our caterers .\u00a0 The food they served was top class and they were so professional .we also had a free bar .\u00a0 We started buying in drink from the year before the wedding! Many trips made up north !! Much cheaper there for alcohol.Finally as our photographer said to us both on the morning of our wedding.\u00a0 Leave your mobiles and wallets in your room you are not going to need them and from this moment on if anything goes wrong during the wedding day don&#8217;t stress let it go over your head ..Wise words and we both heeded them .\u00a0 Ended up having a ball and a day we will never forget .\u00a0 Oh yes and do get a wedding videographer and wedding photographer.\u00a0 We are so happy we spent the money on two very good professionals who have left us with memories that will last a
